I have always had a fascination for the meadows. I grew up with its fog, its stench of burning debris and its numerous pyramids of garbage. I travelled its cobblestone roads, hiked its tracks and paddled its waterways. I always wondered what secrets could be found in this urban wilderness. What part of this broken ecological system could still survive within its polluted and ravaged borders?

I began my journey into the recesses of the Kearny Marsh and the greater meadowlands in 2009. What I found was totally unexpected! The treasure of life and living things abounded. Captured through my lens while exploring by kayak and hiking on foot, these images and many more serve as a reminder of the resiliency and endurance of nature despite our best efforts to destroy it.
